Flyers are a great addition to an advertising and marketing campaign, choosing the right flyer size is an integral step to achieving the desired outcome.

There are a number of standard flyer sizes that are commonly chosen for different industry advertising and to achieve different marketing goals. Selecting the most beneficial size for the business type and target can be difficult – larger productions attract more attention but come at a larger cost whereas smaller items are more handleable and easy to keep.

Smaller flyers and leaflets (A4 and smaller) are often delivered direct to homes via dedicated distributors or through alternative delivery methods such as newspapers and magazines. Larger flyers and leaflets (larger than A4) are more commonly displayed or physically handed to potential customers, acting almost as a large business card.

Dimensions

Two of the most common flyer size productions are A5 and A4 (14.8cm x 21cm and 21cm x 29.7cm respectively). A5 flyers are commonly inserted into other larger publications such as newsletters and magazines to make for easy delivery and potentially increased reach. This size allows for sufficient information to be displayed for most industries advertising needs and leaves room for design additions.

A4 flyers have significantly more room for information and graphics, and are more beneficial for promotional campaigns and businesses aiming to advertise specific products and services, new areas of operation, special offers and discounts etc. Additionally it allows for graphics, logos, and photographs relevant to the topic to be displayed, to add to the design and attraction of the production.

Density

Paper density is another sizing variation that can significantly affect the outcome of the desired production. GSM is the unofficial measurement of paper density. Printing on paper with a thicker than average density can benefit the overall appeal of the production, a thick flyer can feel more significant than a thin alternative- it may encourage potential customers to hold on to it when they may have otherwise thrown it away.
